About Us

The Sutherland School of Dance was established in 1969 by Mrs. Betty Sutherland , who ran the school in Dumbarton almost singlehandedly , until her daughter , Jan Sutherland retired from her professional dance career in London, Italy and Los Angeles and joined her mother to teach in the school.

 

Mrs. Sutherland , or Mrs. S , as her pupils call her , is a Fellow and Examiner of the Scottish Dance Teacher`s Alliance. She is also a Royal Scottish Official Board of Highland Dance Adjudicator. She travels the world extensively , teaching, examining and judging highland dancing.

 

Jan Sutherland is a - 

Triple Fellow and Examiner Theatre Branch SDTA. Member in Latin American , Freestyle Contemporary and Street Dance.

Triple Fellow of the International Dance Teachers Association in Tap, Classical Ballet and Jazz. Licentiate in Freestyle, Latin American and Theatre Craft.

Fellow British Theatre Dance Association, Tap, Ballet and Modern.

Member , Acrobatics and Drama.

Level 4 Diploma Distinction, Tap , Ballet and Modern. N.V.Q.

S.D.T.A. delegate Theatre Dance Council International.

Member American Acrobatic Dance Teacher`s Association.
